Francisco Idareta Goldaracena, «From Yraeta to Idareta: An Approach to the Origins of the Lineage and Its Evolution from Cestona to Navaz between the 14th and 20th Centuries», Volume 1, 193 pages, with colour illustrations, dimensions 24 x 17 centimetres, foreword by Jesús Mauleón Heredia, published by Uno Editorial, Legal Deposit AB 338-2022, ISBN 978-84-19384-05-8, Albacete, 2022.

A genealogical and historical study of the Basque lineage Yraeta-Idareta, tracing the surname from the Gipuzkoan town of Cestona in the 14th century to the Navarrese village of Navaz in the 20th century. The work analyses the transformations of the surname over six centuries, identifies family members who settled in Gipuzkoa and Navarre, and examines their coat of arms, recorded in a 1769 manuscript held at the Diocesan Archive of Pamplona.

The 1769 manuscript held at the Diocesan Archive of Pamplona describes the meaning of the arms of Casa Yraeta: Argent stands for purity and integrity; Vert for hope and virtue; the Or fruit of the tree for justice and nobility; the oak for strength; and the boar for the courage of one who does not provoke but, when cornered, defends his honour regardless of the cost.

Francisco Idareta Goldaracena holds a doctorate in Social Work from the Public University of Navarre (UPNA), where he works as a lecturer and researcher in the Department of Sociology and Social Work. He has published in national and international peer-reviewed journals, as well as book chapters and monographs. His research focuses on ethics and professional deontology in Social Work.

I had the honour of painting the coat of arms featured on the cover of this book, a recreation of the arms of Casa Yraeta, as well as the coat of arms reproduced in the interior of the volume.

The recently published book by Dr. Željko Heimer, titled «Propedeutica heraldica. Uvod u blazoniranje u 20 lekcija», is an important contribution to contemporary heraldic scholarship.

«Propedeutica heraldica» offers a structured introduction to the language of blazon through 20 carefully designed lessons, providing a systematic foundation for understanding and composing heraldic descriptions. Conceived as a university manual and published by FF-press of the University of Zagreb, it represents a significant step in consolidating heraldic terminology and practice in Croatia, where the technical language of blazon has too often lacked methodological consistency.

With 190 pages in large format, the work responds to a long-standing need for clarity and rigor in heraldic education, reaffirming blazon as the essential technical language of heraldry.

It has been a particular honour for me that the author has included two sets of heraldic compositions by me proposed within the book as practical exercises in blazoning. I am sincerely grateful for his generosity.

Dr. Željko Heimer is the President of the «Fédération internationale des associations vexillologiques» (FIAV) and President of the Croatian Heraldic & Vexillological Association, with decades of academic teaching experience in heraldry and vexillology at university level in Zagreb. His work has played a central role in the modern development of heraldic studies in Croatia.

The book is expected to be available through the distributor Knjizara Dominovic acting for FF Press knjizara-dominovic.hr/en/propedeutica-heraldica-uvod-u-blazoniranje-u-20-lekcija-product-58498.
