Delineation, ratios and angles of a basic chevron.

Frente a los que denomino cabrio clásico y cabrio abierto, este se traza por el simple cruce de una banda y una barra.

Produce un desigual reparto de los espacios vacíos del campo, amplio por encima, escaso por debajo. Dependiendo del diseño que se haya que realizar, esto puede ser una ventaja o un inconveniente.

Por ejemplo, en este caso del escudo de Juan de Ladbrooke, no hay cargas ni figuras para las que habilitar espacio, sólo es un cabrio de armiños, por lo que esta forma de diseño puede ser adecuada y, más aún, si se desea un clara y patente representación del azur.

Some of the characteristics of the Castilian castle are specified in the coat of arms in English, for example, «triple towered, embattled», but they are omitted in the Spanish blason, because the Spanish blason considered that the Castilian castle can not be otherwise. These local characteristics, that decades ago were not necessary to specify, could begin to have to be in this global and interconnected heraldic world. [Valero de Bernabé, L.; 2009a] describe the different characteristics between the Castilian, the French, and the English castles among others.

There are several methods to draw a pointed coat of arms, for example, the method of [The Heraldry Society; 2013; page 7]. There are also several pointed coat of arms with the ratio 5/6 between its width b and its height h.

The previous illustation shows my method to draw a 5/6 pointed coat of arms. The center Cd of the dexter arc is 17h/36 = 17b/30 from the top of the shield and its radious is 13h/24 = 13b/20, or what is the same, its diameter is 13h/12 = 13b/10.

The position of the Cs of the sinister arc and its construction is symmetric to the dexter arc with respect to the vertical axis, as shown in the following illustration.

The owl is in the crest of this coat of arms because it is a very frequent animal in Val'Quirico. However, [Wade, W. C.; 1898; page 77] tells us the owl «betokens in arms one who is vigilant and of acute wit» and «it was the favourite bird of Minerva, and was borne b the Athenians in their standards».

The rule of tincture, «metal should not be put on metal, nor color on color», is the most famous rule of the heraldry. In the divisions of the field, for example, party per fess, party per pale, quartered, etc., the tinctures are beside each other, not one on top of the other, because the divisions are not charges, so the rule of tincture does not apply. Although as a rule of aesthetics may be useful in the case of divisions.

Ratio of heights

This is an schema to draw and standard. I do not use a fixed geometry, but in this case, I draw a 1/2 ratio between hightest side h at the flagpole and the diameter d of the circle on the end (see the lines and text Gules in the schema). The lenght of the standard depends on the bearer range and the kingdom, there are tables, but I only use them under the bearer instrucctions.

How to split the motto

Be aware about how to split the motto, the 1^st line on the left (from the observer point of view, the heraldic dexter) and the 2^nd line on the right (from the observer point of view, the heraldic sinister).

The coat of arms is near the flagpole and I use to make enough space for a shield with a 5/6 ratio between its base and its height (lines and text Vert in the schema).
