• It includes his motto «Ischys Dia Tis Gnoseos», written in Greek, which could be translated as «el poder del conocimiento».
• With his saltire reduced to 2/3 of its traditional width, which is 1/3 of the width of the shield. In this way, the saltire is 2/9 of the width of the shield. The objective of the reduction is to give more space to both his owl and his oak. This reduction does not convert it into the diminished piece called flanque, which has a 1/3 reduction over 1/3 of the shield's width, therefore, 1/9 of the shield's width.

In Spanish heraldry, there are three terms for supporters: «sostenes» for objects or plants, «tenantes» for human figures, and «soportes» for animal forms. The following applies to sostenes, tenantes, and soportes. Unlike other heraldic traditions such as English heraldry, in Spanish heraldry there are no rules for the use of supporters; their use is at the armiger's discretion, without specific restrictions. Supporters are not reserved only for nobility; their use is free for all.

In the words of [Cadenas y Vicent, V. de; 1975; page 173] «there is no rule that determines the use of tenantes, soportes, and sostenes».

The Spanish blazon:

• uses «del uno al otro» when the heraldic charge is over both quarters, this expression means that the charge goes from one quarter to the other quarter and in each quarter it has the tincture of the field of the other quarter, in this case, the tree, and
• uses «del uno en el otro» when there are two equal charges, one in each quarter and with the tincture of the field of the other quarter, in this case, the starlings.

In English, the heraldic term «counterchanged» is used in both cases and this coat of arms is a good example of both.
