Design rationale

She is an Associate Professor and Assistant Professor at the University of Houston-Clear Lake. She studied Marine Biology at the University of Puerto Rico, Humacao (1991–1995), and the marine motifs reflect both her academic training and career. The dolphin on the shield refers to her Puerto Rican heritage, her birthplace in Fajardo, and her personal value of honor. At her request, the shield ends in a semi-circular arch, in keeping with Hispanic heraldic tradition. The three escallops symbolize her family and her compassion. She currently resides in Houston, Texas, which is why the owl in her crest holds a bluebonnet (Lupinus texensis), the state flower of Texas since 1901. The owl represents her profession and her wisdom. A small gold heart on the chain pendant indicates her cadency as first daughter.

G0076, Chief Herald of Arms of Malta's grant for the arms of Claes Zangenberg's arms, whose full achievement has been emblazoned by me for such grant. This full achievement includes a crown of Baron, it is essential to emphasize that the inclusion of these ornaments does not constitute legal recognition of titles of nobility by the Republic of Malta; rather, it reflects the Office's mandate to preserve and document the cultural and heraldic heritage of the petitioners. The current Chief Herald of Arms of Malta has clarified in various interviews and lectures that, as the Constitution of Malta has not recognized titles of nobility since 1975, the legal framework allowing the Republic of Malta to register a coat of arms featuring coronets is to treat it as historical and cultural evidence of a lineage. This approach is detailed in the book [Gauci, C. A.; 2023; 145], «The Way Forward»: «Thus, although the State recognizes the coat of arms of an individual as granted/registered by the Chief Herald of Arms of Malta, this does not mean that the Chief Herald or indeed the Republic of Malta are also automatically recognizing any title of nobility used by the individual in question. The coat of arms of Gregorio Lanzagorta Llaguno, harbor of San Blas, and cigar maker in Nayarit, Mexico. This coat of arms was designed by Juan Lanzagorta Vallín and painted by me in 3 steps: 1) outlined, 2) plain colors and metals, and 3) lights and shadows. The heraldic terms «gavilla» ~ «garb» in Castilian and English. Note that the English term «sheaf» also corresponds to the Castilian «gavilla». At first, I thought I remembered that in Castilian this sheaf of tobacco had the very specific name «tonga», and that is why I initially used «tonga de tabaco» ~ «tobacco sheaf». But I discovered that «tonga» is a more local than general term, [Real Academia Española; 2014] «Canarias y Cuba: Pila o porción de cosas apiladas en orden», so «tonga» is not as general as I believed, and therefore I moved on to use «gavilla de hojas de tabaco» ~ «sheaf of tobacco leaves», although this is somewhat long, and moreover the words «hojas» and «leaves» are redundant, since these sheaves are only made of leaves—just as wheat sheaves are always made of ears, so one does not say a sheaf of wheat ears. That is why I finally use for the blazon «gavilla de tabaco» ~ «sheaf of tobacco» in Castilian and English, respectively.

In Castilian heraldic tradition, the «adiestrado» ~ «tierce» used in this coat of arms and its symmetrical «siniestrado» ~ «tierce sinister» are «irregular divisions of the field by one line» ~ «particiones irregulares». That is why I use «tierce» and «tierce sinister» in English. These are canting arms because her surname is «Peregrina» ~ «pilgrim», and her coat of arms depicts the arm of a pilgrim, as she is one herself, with her staff and her gourd for carrying water, advancing towards the dexter, in order to reach the destination of her three most important life pilgrimages: Santiago de Compostela, Rome, and Jerusalem.

Emblem interpreted by me as follows: an oval shape with proportions 5x6, wider than the original; the field illuminated in Azure; its charges outlined in Sable and illuminated in the colours Gules and Vert and the metals Argent and Or; the Archangel Saint Michael vested in Or, unlike others who appear in Argent; his emerald simplified into an area enameled Vert; and the whole emblem has a lightly beaten metal finish.

Due to its special characteristics, the difficulty in complying with the first rule of heraldry concerning metals and colours, and out of prudence, I categorize it as an emblem rather than a shield.

In a relief of the Church of Saint Michael the Archangel in Estella, Saint Michael can be seen fighting a dragon that represents the devil, in a similar but mirrored arrangement to that of this emblem. In that relief, the Archangel Saint Michael bears a pre-heraldic shield with its umbo. According to [Menéndez Pidal de Navascués, F.; 1963], the umbo of the shield is a reinforcing element that is the predecessor of what would later become the pommelly carbuncle of the shield of the Kingdom of Navarre.
