Coat of arms of Andrea Tamburelli Lanzara di Pietragavina, Marquis Prato di Arnesano, painted by me. The image shows step by step, row by row, how three coats of arms are combined to generate the final result. In the upper row I first place the arms of the Tamburelli lineage and then the arms of the Lanzara lineage, which are canting arms, as may be seen in the lion holding a lance. Together they form, in the second row, the impaled arms of Tamburelli-Lanzara, placed beside the coat of arms of the Marquis of Prato di Arnesano. Finally, I combine them to form the coat of arms shown in the third row, where the arms of the Marquis of Prato di Arnesano are incorporated into the arms of Tamburelli-Lanzara by means of a enté en point.

Coat of arms of Andrea Tamburelli Lanzara di Pietragavina, Marquis of Prato di Arnesano, painted by me. I painted versions of the coat of arms of Andrea Tamburelli Lanzara di Pietragavina when he was not yet the holder of this marquisate. The design of this coat of arms is based on the coat of arms of Andrea Tamburelli Lanzara di Pietragavina, combined with a enté en point corresponding to the Marquis Prato di Arnesano. This way of combining them was an idea jointly developed by Andrea Tamburelli Lanzara di Pietragavina and myself. In the written blazon of this coat of arms, I identify in brackets the origin of each of its constituent parts.

Coat of arms of Albert de Bruijn emblazoned by me. Note that the black grouse in this coat of arms is characterized by two tail feathers recalling a lyre; the term in heraldry «moorcock» denotes a heraldic black grouse, a conceptual representation, sometimes depicted with the tail formed by two pointed feathers; finally, the capercaillie is larger and its tail is less distinctive; in this case, it is a black grouse proper.

The ancient arms of the family Tamburelli, Lords of Pietra Gravina, as used by Don Eugenio Ugo Augusto Tamburelli, emblazoned by me. In Italy, numerous coats of arms bear an eagle displayed Sable on a chief Or, clearly derived from the imperial arms «Or, an eagle displayed Sable». These chiefs, known as the «capo dell’Impero», originated in the context of the Guelph and Ghibelline conflicts, being adopted by supporters of the Holy Roman Empire as a sign of allegiance, the Ghibelline. In the case of Pietragavina, the reference is particularly significant, as the site is recorded in an imperial diploma of Frederick Barbarossa (1164), thus indicating a direct historical connection with imperial authority, which may well justify the presence of such an augmentation in the arms.

The ancient arms of the family Tamburelli, Lords of Pietra Gravina, as used by Don Eugenio Ugo Augusto Tamburelli, emblazoned by me. Pietragavina is the modern consolidated form and the current toponym; the older form is Pietra Gavina, written as two words, which we use in historical expressions such as Lords of Pietra Gavina. Pietragavina is a locality within the municipality of Varzi, in the province of Pavia, region of Lombardy.
