Escudo de azur, tres coronas en banda, puestas en faja de oro.

Crown with the main axis being the vertical and central axis of symmetry and which is usually placed palewise. The sole purpose of this coat of arms, as well as the rest of the similar ones, is to illustrate the use of «in» and «wise».

Faja ~ fess ~ fesse

The piece «faja» is written in English as «a fess», but it can also be found written with an «e» at the end, or as «fesse», and, as in the previous cases, I have also found it as «party per fesse».

When the charges are placed on a fess, in English it is written as «on a fess», for example «on a fess Azure three garbs Or», which would be said «una faja de azur cargada de tres gavillas de trigo de oro». But I have also seen it written with an «e», such as «on a fesse».

When the «e» is always included in English, it is in the plural of «faja», that is, when it must be translated as «fajas». Thus, for example, «three fesses Gules» is «tres fajas de oro».

Coat of arms of Jesus Angueira Duro from Galicia. The image combines a photograph of a drawing of a Galician granary along with his coat of arms, both painted by me. From my original hand-drawn sketch to its final heraldic embodiment, this Galician granary has evolved in its details, crosses, tile finials, door lock, through a close and iterative creative process with the armiger.

The arms of Kelly Kathleen Knox was presented in my lecture Women and Arms: Contemporary Coats of Arms for Women Worldwide (lecture). The presentation included her coat of arms shown together with the blazon and the design rationale. She is PhD, a retired military officer of the US Army and Air Force, primarily serving in medical and humanitarian roles, who served in two wars, was honored with the Meritorious Service Medal with one Oak Leaf Cluster, among other distinctions, and was inducted into the Ohio Veterans Hall of Fame. Her arms were designed by her and me and emblazoned by me.

Pixiv is a Japanese online community for artists. I post in Pixiv 2 or 3 coats of arms per week. They use a strict form to post with many mandatory input fields. This week, they have added a new mandatory field «AI-generated work: Yes / No», AI ~ Artificial Intelligence. In the image, I have highlighted this new field in red.

My animation of the coat of arms of Juan Lanzagorta reached position 33 in Pixiv’s daily Ugoira animation ranking. I am very happy about this, as it is not easy to achieve.

Personal coat of arms of Her Excellency Myriam Spiteri Debono, President of Malta, grant G0134 by Dr. Charles A. Gauci, Chief Herald of Arms of Malta. These arms were emblazoned by me for the grant and exhibited at the National Museum - Palace of the Grand Dukes of Lithuania during the 5^th International Colloquium of Genealogy, Heraldry and Vexillology (ICGHV5), held in Vilnius on 22–23 May 2026 and organised by the Genealogijos, Heraldikos ir Veksilologijos Institutas (GHVI). This exhibition print has been selected for inclusion in the permanent collection of the organising institution. The first version was commissioned by the Government of Malta for presentation to Her Excellency the President of Malta.

An antiquarian, writing from Rostov-on-Don, sent me this image asking about the coat of arms with the tortoise.

The coat of arms with the tortoise is that of the city of Bugia, or Bujía in Spanish, or Bougie in French. It is a city in Algeria with a port on the Mediterranean. Bugia was conquered by the Crown of Castile in 1510 and remained under its rule until 1555. Therefore, Bugia belonged to Charles I of Spain and V of the Holy Roman Empire (1500–1558), and in some books and documents concerning the territories of Charles V the coat of arms of Bugia is included, whose blazon in English is «Gules, a turtle fesswise Or», and in Castilian, «escudo de gules, una tortuga puesta en faja de oro». For its identification I relied on [Sánchez Badiola, J. J.; 2010; pages 102 and 103].

In my humble opinion, I believe that in this illustration the city of Bugia is given greater importance than it actually had, especially when compared with the rest of the coats of arms represented in it, for example, León, Castile, Aragon, Navarre, Minorca, Sardinia or Granada. It is possible that the city of Bugia was included because it was an African possession.
